The catalogue for an exhibition of works of American Indian art from the late eighteenth century to the early twentieth century, held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC, March 25 - July 3, 1983. The exhibit went beyond the then-stereotype of Native American art made up of feathers, buckskins, and beads and presented as well: wood objects of the Northeast; wood sculptures of the Northwest Coast; elegant baskets from the Far West; intricate finger-woven textiles of the Great Lakes region; and wearing blankets of the Southwest. Essay by Zena Pearlstone Mathews; foreword by Philippe de Montebello.
